I have been privileged to work with some amazing people starting from the time I was in college completing art therapy internships with children at Mount Sinai Medical Center then later with adults at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  My work as an Art Counselor at Life with Cancer in their children’s programs and then as a Child Life Specialist at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children further solidified my belief that the simplest act of creating art provides numerous emotional and psychological benefits.  About four years ago, I came up with the idea of a cozy, sunlight-filled studio space where people who needed it the most could come to create their own artwork.  There would be a vast amount of artist’s supplies to choose from and they could create whatever their hearts desired.  Now with tons of support from my husband, our families, and close friends, this studio and these “Open Studio Art Escapes” are becoming a reality.  While these Art Escapes will not be therapy, I am grateful to have a wealth of resources to which I can refer people if necessary.
